© Joakim Eskildsen spends over seven months traveling to New York, California, Louisiana, South Dakota and Georgia to photograph the many types of people who face poverty. In 2010 more Americans lived below the poverty line than at any time since 1959. The growing crisis now affects nearly 46.2 million Americans.

I almost forgot how memorable and eventful the past year has been. The 45 Most Powerful Images of 2011. These are why I like to document life.
